Lemon Shandy
It’s Sunday and it’s a bit hot…although to be fair it’s always just a tad hot in Barbados (or at least it feels that way) and I decided to treat mom to an ice cold refreshing drink. A favourite around Christmas time, and usually commercially bought, a lemon shandy is a thirst-quenching drink that is easy and quick to make at home.
My shandy is made with lemon, limes (go figure), sugar, beer, angostura bitters, and (for my mom’s benefit) a dash of falernum.
Lemons are sometimes hard to get at a reasonable price, so whenever I find them at a cost that doesn’t make my eyes pop open, I buy a good number and juice them along with limes to freeze and store for any occasion that might warrant it. The sourness of the lemons and the slight bitterness of local limes combined, make for a mean Caribbean lemonade in it’s own right — but lets be honest everything is better with beer.
Combine lemon juice, sugar, and water and stir until sugar dissolves.
